Get cosy with our ultimate feel-good winter watchlist

If winter arriving isn’t an excuse to wrap yourself up in a cosy blanket, remote in hand and watch films, we don’t know what is. After all, ’tis the season to be toasty. While you may naturally opt for a festive feel-good flick, we have found that movies featuring statement footwear make the best cinema. After all, you should never underestimate the power of a good pair of shoes. Don’t believe us? Check out our ultimate winter watchlist now.

Kinky Boots

This British comedy drama “definitely knows what a woman wants”. The epitome of a wholesome feel-good movie, Kinky Boots is all about shoes and we couldn’t recommend it more. Following the protagonist Charlie Price as he inherits his father’s struggling shoe factory, Kinky Boots is a coming-of-age tale that champions self-acceptance in a glorious celebration of the thing we love most- boots!

In an effort to save his business Charlie befriends a drag queen named Lola and together they create a line of high-heeled boots for men. Can you think of a more iconic fashion line? Later turned into a popular stage musical, this film is a celebration of individuality and diversity.

Yet to add it to your watchlist? Charlie’s story is inspired by real events. If that doesn’t leave you wanting your own pair of kinky boots, we don’t know what will!

The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic that follows Dorothy Gale’s journey through the magical land of Oz. After being gifted some enchanted, and extremely beautiful ruby slippers, Dorothy must navigate this strange new world with the help of friends she meets along the way.  Need a pick-me-up this winter? Grab your snacks because you’re guaranteed that feel-good feeling over the rainbow.

There’s no doubt that Dorothy’s slippers went down in popular culture history as one of cinema’s most legendary pairs of shoes. Don’t believe us? These shoes were so famous that they were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum.  Covered in approximately 2,000 red sequins, can you really blame the Wicked Witch for trying to take them. With lions, and tigers, and shoes, oh my, can you think of a better feel-good film?

The Devil wears Prada

If you love shoes as much as we do, you must have heard of this iconic comedy-drama. Based on Lauren Weisberger’s portrayal of a demanding and cutthroat fashion industry, The Devil Wears Prada may not be everyone’s top feel-good movie but it’s definitely one of ours! With its showcase of stunning designer shoes and elaborate photo shoots, this film is the perfect blend of witty humour and creativity.

The story of young aspiring journalist, Andy Sachs, as she lands a job as an assistant to a powerful fashion magazine editor, and negotiates her demanding journey is empowering, especially for female viewers. Besides, Andy’s iconic makeover featuring stunning Chanel leather boots is reason enough to watch.

Cinderella

If a cosy winter night in reliving your favourite Disney moments sounds like heaven to you then Cinderella is your feel-good film. This timeless tale featuring a young girl mistreated by her stepmother and sisters celebrates the magic of a good pair of heels.

Despite its many adaptations, one iconic accessory remains the enduring symbol of the story- Cinderella’s glass slippers. Playing a significant role in the development of the plot, these magical heels prove one thing- the right pair of shoes can make your dreams come true.
