This week we spoke about trends and fashion choices with Allison Stevenson and Charlotte Drury, who work in unison as buyers for The Clinkard Group and are responsible for ladies’ and men’s footwear, to get an insight on what goes on behind the scenes to bring you the trendy styles we all love.

What is the thought process behind the selection process for the brand and what features do you look for in a product?
“The selection process is based around last year’s best sellers as a starting point, we then look at new products and trends. When selecting new products we consider style, fit, quality and price point and the goal is to select the right product for our customer to feel happy and comfortable wearing. We like to try on all products to ensure that they fit and that the comfort and style is suitable and sits within our ranging plan.”
What trend do you currently have your eye on?
“People’s fashion preferences shift with each passing season. We work hard to stay current by gathering information from social media, magazines and trade shows. We are currently seeing an increase in the popularity of Loafers and western-style boots!”
Are there any tell-tale signs to see which products will be popular?
“We can view historical sales information and see how popular a style was with our customers and its overall performance. Customer and store feedback is always vital, as we want to ensure our customers look and feel their best.”
What styles are popular all year round?
““Comfort is key, and these styles generally have a wide age appeal as customers return to purchase the product again or in a different colour.”
Does the selection process differ from SS and AW seasons?
“Each season will bring a new range of products, such as swapping sandals for winter boots but our selection principles remain the same “
