Organising your shoe wardrobe

Every home organises its shoes differently. Whether your household opts for under the bed storage, a shoe rack in the hallway or a space in the wardrobe, there’s no denying that footwear has a way of spreading. Are you fed up of finding shoes in every corner of the house? Are you tired of tripping over rogue pairs laid out in the middle of the floor? Well, we’ve got you covered. Follow these tips and step into winter with a tidy shoe wardrobe for all to envy.

Decluttering the space

It may not be the season for a spring clean but it’s never the wrong time for a declutter. We appreciate that it can be difficult to say goodbye to your well-worn and well-loved shoes, no matter how old they may be. Yet refining your collection is one of the best ways to organise your shoe wardrobe.

Give your new footwear pride of place by ridding your space of the shoes you no longer wear. Ask yourself how many times a week the item has made it out of the cupboard. If the answer is not very often, then it may be time for it to go. Decluttering is a tricky task but it’s the best place to start.

Once you’ve decided which shoes you are giving away, and are settled with your newly freed wardrobe space, the real fun can begin, which, of course, involves refilling it with all those much-needed seasonal essentials.

Shoe Storage

Finding the perfect location for your shoes isn’t always an easy task. It can often feel easier to cram five pairs of old shoes into the back of your wardrobe and forget that they exist. But what if we told you that there is a better way, a way that will not only extend your footwear’s life span, but leave you with even more space to fill?

While all shoes should be stored in a cool, dry environment, you should take into consideration the type of shoe you are storing. This is because different shoes often require slightly different storage solutions. Trainers, for example, should be cleaned and dried thoroughly before they are stored. For extra protection, you could even put them in a clear shoe storage box. Heels, on the other hand, fare better at the top of your wardrobe. Here they will be safe from any potential knocks and will remain in a good condition. Store them in shoe bins for safe keeping.

Our most important tip is to store shoes smartly. By separating shoes by season, colour or wearability, you can have a few extra minutes in bed knowing exactly where your everyday shoes are kept.

Now that you know how to store your shoes properly, is it time to update your wardrobe?
