It may not be sandal season anymore but footcare is just as important in the winter. While getting your steps in and eating well may seem like the best ways to keep your body healthy, you should never disregard the importance of looking after your feet, and we aren’t just talking about a fresh manicure! Don’t make your feet a low priority just because they’re hidden away in the colder months.

Finding the perfect fit
Buying high quality shoes that are durable and comfort-driven is the first step in any successful footcare routine. A sturdy pair of shoes will help to evenly distribute body weight, improve posture and prevent injury. Plus no one wants to worry about squashed feet while they are running errands.
Poorly fitting shoes can be painful. Avoid causing lasting discomfort and unwanted problems such as bunions and blisters and take our tips seriously.
- Fit your shoe to the larger foot– Fun fact! Everyone has one foot that is bigger than the other. Make sure you pick the size that’s comfortable for both feet.
- Check the space at the end of your shoe – Shoes aren’t all made the same so you can’t always rely on size to guarantee the perfect fit. I know, confusing right? But don’t worry because we have a neat trick that promises comfort every time. Check for space at the end of any new shoe with your thumb. There should be one finger’s width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
- Test it out- Always stand and walk around the house to make sure your feet are comfortable in your new shoes. We would hate for you to wear a shoe out only to later realise that it causes you discomfort. Plus you’ll be showered with compliments from people you live with and can check the shoe out for yourself in a nearby mirror. You’ll have never been so ready or so confident to test out your new footwear!
- Know your feet– Just like us, every pair of feet are different. Do you struggle to find shoes that don’t feel crammed? Are you prone to bunions for example? This could mean that you have wide feet. Not to worry, when you know your feet, you can cater to their needs, and we are here to help! Shop wide-fitting shoes on our website here.
Foot Health
Now that we have established the importance of a well-fitting shoe, it’s time to talk about what you really care about. How can we keep our feet looking and, more importantly, feeling great?
Do you moisturise your face daily? How many ‘miracle’ anti-aging creams have you tried? Do you give your feet the same treatments? We all know how important it is to control moisture levels in the skin, so why do only prioritise the body parts on display?
As frustrating as it may be, it’s no medical secret that drier skin is synonymous with getting older but why is that the case and how can we prevent it?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. As skin ages, it becomes even more important to moisturise. Creams are your friend! And in the (unlikely) chance of bare feet under the cold sun, don’t underestimate the need for sun cream! It may be cold out but those pesky UV rays don’t hibernate in the winter.
Trust us, your feet will be thanking you for some extra TLC this winter. Consider exfoliating them once a week to remove hard skill cells from the surface and see an improvement in smoothness and comfort.
We’ve done our research so you don’t have to. Still unsure? Why not check out what the NHS have to say. Getting older isn’t preventable but foot pain certainly is. Help us make footcare fashionable by prioritising your skin.
