How to clean leather shoes
If you're investing in a new pair of leather shoes, looking after them is important. If your leather shoes have laces, remove them and follow these simple steps.
- Take a shoe-cleaning brush and brush off any dirt and debris.
- Take a clean cloth, dip it into soap and water, and use it to remove any stubborn stains.
- Then, use a dry cloth to wipe away any leftover soap. Put a shoe tree into your shoes to help them keep their shape while drying.
- Get a similar coloured polish and apply it to the whole shoe with a clean, soft cloth, using circular motions. Take care not to stain the stitching if it's a different colour, and always test your polish first to ensure it won't discolour your shoes.
- Once the polish has soaked, use a buffing brush to shine your shoes in soft, steady swipes.
- Finish by spraying them with a protector to protect them from the elements, and there you have it, perfectly clean leather shoes.
Only follow these steps if your shoes are made from regular leather, as suede and nubuck will stain and could potentially become damaged.
