Your September Watchlist: 6 Shows to Watch This Autumn
September has a certain feeling to it.The evenings begin to draw in, the air feels a little cooler and, after a summer of long light nights, there is something rather lovely about settling back into the rhythm of cosy evenings at home. For us, that means one thing: a very good TV watchlist.
Think of this as your invitation to slow down, switch off from the everyday noise and settle in for a few hours of great television. Add snacks, your favourite pair of shoes kicked off at the door and somewhere comfortable to curl up, and you have the perfect autumn evening.
We’ve rounded up six of the best TV shows to watch this September, mixing new 2026 releases and returning favourites across drama, comedy, romance, and a touch of supernatural suspense. Whether you are looking for an intense binge-watch, an easy-going comedy or a story you will still be thinking about tomorrow, there should be something here for you.
1. The Pitt
If you are looking for an intense, addictive drama to binge-watch this September, start with The Pitt. The critically acclaimed medical drama follows the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center as they navigate the relentless pressure of working in an overcrowded emergency department.
Season 2 returned in January 2026, what continues to make the Pitt so compelling is its sense of immediacy. The story keeps you close to the doctors, nurses and patients, capturing the exhaustion, urgency and humanity of life on the hospital floor. It is tense, emotional and very easy to say just one more episode too.
2. Widow’s Bay
Fancy something a little darker? Widow’s Bay is the one to put on when September evenings start feeling suitably mysterious. This 2026 Apple TV horror-comedy follows Tom Loftis, a well-meaning mayor determined to revive his struggling island community by turning it into a tourist destination. There is just one problem: the locals believe the island has been cursed for generations and, unfortunately for Tom, they may be right.
Blending supernatural horror, dark comedy and small-town mystery, Widow’s Bay feels wonderfully atmospheric. Think eerie island folklore, strange happenings and just enough humour to keep things from becoming too heavy. It is an ideal choice for those first properly cosy September nights when you want something a little spooky without going completely full horror.
3. Yellowstone
Some shows simply belong on an autumn watchlist, and Yellowstone is one of them. The modern Western drama follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, as they fight to protect their vast Montana ranch and the way of life that comes with it. Along the way, land disputes, family tensions, politics and power struggles make sure there is never a quiet moment for long.
With its sweeping landscapes, complicated family relationships and slow-burning drama, Yellowstone is the kind of series you can disappear into. And if you have somehow managed to avoid it until now, September is as good a time as any to start.
4. Shrinking
For something warmer, funnier and a little more heartfelt, Shrinking deserves a place on your September TV watchlist. The Apple TV comedy-drama follows grieving therapist Jimmy, who starts breaking professional boundaries by telling his patients exactly what he thinks. His decision to ignore the usual rules quickly begins changing his patients' lives, as well as his own.
Season 3 arrived in January 2026, bringing more of the show's signature mix of sharp humour, complicated relationships and genuinely moving moments. It is funny without trying too hard, emotional without becoming overly sentimental and full of characters you quickly feel as though you know.
5. The Four Seasons
If you like your television centered around friendships, relationships and the wonderfully complicated business of being an adult, add The Four Seasons to your list. The Netflix comedy follows a group of long-time friends who take seasonal trips together throughout the year. What begins as a familiar tradition becomes much more complicated when relationships change and one unexpected separation threatens to shift the dynamic of the whole group.
Season 2 arrived in May 2026, bringing the group back together for another trip around the year. There is something particularly comforting about watching a group of people who have known each other for years, the inside jokes and old habits, that feels so comforting to watch!
6. Sweet Magnolias
And finally, for the ultimate feel-good autumn TV show, there is Sweet Magnolias.
Set in the charming small town of Serenity, South Carolina, the series follows lifelong best friends Maddie, Helen and Dana Sue as they navigate relationships, family, careers and all the unexpected twists that come with life. Season 5 arrived on Netflix in June 2026, bringing the three friends into a new chapter while keeping the friendship, romance and small-town warmth that fans have come to love.
It is the television equivalent of a warm drink on a cool evening: familiar, comforting and easy to settle into.Perfect when you want something light-hearted, romantic and reassuring after a long day.
