5 Recipes for the perfect late summer garden party

We’re taking a break from shoes today and talking about our second biggest love: Food.

We may be rapidly approaching autumn, but we’re not done with summer just yet. There’s plenty of sunshine still to be had, and there’s always the hope of an Indian summer on the horizon.

So what should we do to make the most of these last few golden summer evenings? Throw a garden party of course! We’ve searched high and low for the very best summer party recipes out there, so you can serve up something fresh and delicious for your guests.

1. Prosciutto wrapped asparagus

They key to any good garden party recipe is to make the food easy to eat and highly shareable, and these wonderfully nibble-worthy asparagus spears more than qualify. When wrapped in the salty goodness of rich Italian prosciutto ham, this already delicious summer vegetable becomes an instant party food hit.

And the best part is, they’re super quick and simple to make. You only need two ingredients, a bunch or two of asparagus spears, and some prosciutto. You can use parma ham for these too, if you can’t find proscuitto. Then simply wrap each asparagus spear in half a slice of your ham and cook in a hot frying pan for a couple of minutes. Easy, and so so tasty. Find the full recipe here.

Sticking to the tidy and easy to eat party food theme, you’ve got to try out these incredible sweet and spicy chicken skewers on your guests. With just a hint of warm spice, these mini skewers are perfect for pleasing the masses, and will go down a storm with adults and children alike.

This is another delightfully simple recipe, simply requiring chunks of chicken breast or thigh and a handful of basic ingredients to mix up the flavoursome marinade. Once on their skewers and marinated, all you need to do is stick them under the grill for 10-15 mins and they’re ready. You could even finish them off on the BBQ if you fancy that extra chargrilled flavour. Find the full recipe here.

No garden party is complete without a good savoury tart; those are the rules. This is also a great way to cater for your vegetarian guests, as you can fill them full of veg with absolutely no need to compromise on flavour. This very inviting cheese and spring onion tart from Jamie Oliver is a great one to impress with, and can be adapted to suit your tastes and time.

Substitute ready-rolled pastry if you’re in a hurry, and there’s no reason why you can’t get creative with your cheese choices too; it’s all good stuff. If you’re expecting lots of guests, you can make several of these in advance and keep them in the fridge overnight until you’re ready to slice and serve. Find the full recipe here.

Is it really a garden party if there’s no salad? We don’t think so. Summer salads are best when they’re bright, colourful and full of flavour. You’ll also want to use ingredients that are easy to scoop and serve with one hand, so avoiding huge leaves is wise. This vibrant chickpea and veggie salad ticks all of the above boxes, and is packed full of fresh, juicy flavours and a touch of salty seasoning from the feta.

This couldn’t be much easier to prepare, either. Simply chop up your veg, drain a can of chickpeas, crumble up your feta and toss it all together. There’s also an optional lemon dressing for adding an extra zing if you fancy it. Find the full recipe here.
